Winter Tennis Update

November 27, 2020

As the outdoor temps have dropped, the action is heating up here at the YMCA Tennis & Wellness Center!  Daily use of the courts is increasing with each passing week.  As we progress through the winter, getting a court can become challenging.  I strongly suggest reserving your court ahead of time to guarantee play for you and your friends.  Members may reserve a court up to 7 days in advance.  Fees are $10 per hour, or $15 for 90-minutes, payable at the time the reservation is made.  Call the Tennis Center at (419)422-9922 to reserve your court today!

Classes for Fall Session #2 will conclude on December 20th.  Attendance has been overwhelming and I am so appreciative of your support. The increase in player distancing and reductions in class sizes have been very effective in maximizing player safety as we all cope with COVID-19.  Winter Session #1 begins January 4th, with member registration starting December 21st.  As many of you know, our tennis classes fill up fast, so mark your calendars so you don’t miss out on your favorite classes!

Our men’s and ladies USTA Teams have done very well this fall, competing in the Combo leagues on Sundays.  Combo league play wraps up on December 13th.  The USTA Mixed Doubles leagues will begin in January.  I look forward to another strong season of play from our participating YMCA members. Findlay really is a magnificent tennis and pickleball community and I’m very appreciative of the support and enthusiasm from our players!

I’ve added an additional Hayes H.I.T. Drill, Mondays 6-7 pm.  Coach Hayes has developed a huge following at his Wednesday morning H.I.T. Drill and I’m confident our members will take advantage of this additional time to attend Jim’s new Monday class!  The new class will begin with Winter Session #1.

Pickleball participation is up for the third straight year. I’m very happy to see so many new and returning members take advantage of our 10 pickleball courts!  I especially enjoy watching our new members learn to play this great sport.  Take advantage of this awesome opportunity to exercise the body and mind!

On behalf of myself and the amazing staff ‘out east’, I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday season. Be safe and take care of each other.
