George Bjorling, a Findlay YMCA Faithful

January 27, 2020

George Bjorling is a morning staple at the Downtown Branch of the Findlay Family YMCA, with a cup of coffee in his hand, ready to chat with anyone looking to hangout. His life story was told eloquently by the Humans of Findlay & Hancock County this past holiday season, and we loved hearing more about this amazing man and his family.

In short, George, at 93 years young, has lived in Findlay for over 60 years with his family - his wife and four kids. While he has outlived his wife and two of his kids, he lives and loves deeply with his remaining two children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Born in Buffalo, New York, he has traveled far during his time in college in Indianapolis, three years served in the Air Force as a meteorologist in St. Lucia, and years in the auto-finance industry on Ohio.

He visits the Y without fail every morning for a few hours of exercise and socializing. While he used to be an avid racquetball enthusiast, he now works on flexibility and movement by practicing light yoga and making endless laps on the walking track. He noted, "The Y is my place to go every morning because it gets me out of the house. I have a purpose for my day."
