Largest Simultaneous Swim Lesson Sends the Message Swimming Lessons Save Lives to millions around the globe.
Findlay Family YMCA at Riverside Pool Serving as an Official Host Location
Findlay, OH, June 18th – On Tuesday, June 18th, 2013, tens of thousands of kids and adults at aquatic facilities around the world will unite for the fourth year in a row to set a new Guinness World Record. The global record attempt for The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ (WLSL), will take place 11am .
Team WLSL holds the current Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous swimming lesson, which stands at 24,873 participants representing 15 different countries across five continents! The 2012 WLSL event generated more than 29 million media impressions, spreading the event’s important message to hundreds of thousands of families.
Tragically, drowning remains the leading cause of unintended, injury related death for children ages 1-5, and the second leading cause of accidental death for children under 14. Research shows participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88% among children aged 1 to 4, yet many kids do not receive formal swimming or water safety training.
Findlay Family YMCA will be serving as an official Host Location Facility for the WLSL 2013 event. Parents are invited to learn more about this phenomenal event by visiting WLSL.org.
FEED A CHILD PROGRAM:
We don’t often think about children going hungry here in Findlay, Ohio. In fact, insatiable hunger is a difficult thing for most of us to even imagine. Yet sadly, hundreds of children right here in our own community experience this every day. These children find relief during the school year because of our school
lunch programs. For many youngsters, these lunches are the only source of nutrition they can look forward to on a daily basis. During weekends, and when school is out of session, a single meal a day is all they look forward to, and for some, even this is just a dream.
With gifts like yours, the Feed-A-Child Program will provide nutritious food for 229 children each and every weekend this coming year. No longer will these children have to leave school on Friday, not knowing if they will be adequately feed for the next two days. Thanks to your help, these children will do more than just survive the weekends; they may even come to enjoy them.
